Qalandar, one can see from the sheer volume of the discussion that it is a very controversial topic.I really appreciate your contribution into this debate. Thanks for removing our misconceptions and for consistently providing us your informed opinion on various interesting topics. Cheers

I followed the discussion with interest but I am puzzled about how much of it is the concern of internet community and how much effect it has o the lives of ordinary people. Possibly some of it seeps through to people in various agitations but I do not find that it has much effect in the day to day to day life. Last year I stayed for a few weeks in Belur Math (there is a mathematician there and we colloborated) and I found that there are some muslim monks in the mission. One of them turns the pages of Koran after dipping fis fingers in ganga jal. In the coastal andhra too, all these seem to be a distant memory.

gaddeswarup: we should be thankful for small mercies, I guess! However, I would also say that we cannot afford to be complacent -- because the policy makers, those writing the textbooks, etc., do matter. And their significance will only increase given that we expect the literacy rate etc. to go up in the country...
